Peppermint Milkshake

You remember 10+ years ago when the “Shamrock Shake” from McD’s tasted good? It has been a few years since I have had one of theirs, but the last time I did, I remember thinking, “what happened to this? This is nasty!” But it is one of my memories I have of my mom. Her and I always looked forward to March for Shamrock Shakes. Then I discovered Arby’s Mint Milkshake…OH.MY.WORD! It is the bomb milkshake! Saturday my family was traveling, and stopped at an Arby’s for a couple of them to use the facilities…LOL I seen the big poster on the window and oh how I wanted that milkshake! I resisted. It really wasn’t hard. I know what will happen to me if I eat/drink that, and it’s so not worth it. But it does stir up the emotions, and the memories.

Yesterday afternoon, I came home and attempted to make my own! Let me say here, before I give you all the recipe. Not all of these things are 100% compliant on Wahls Protocol. They are all paleo, but you are going to take in more sugar than is allowed on WP. Also, I consider things like this a treat and only RARELY indulge in them. Also keep in mind, I have been on this Lifestyle change for over a year. The first few months I did not allow myself any of these indulges. If you want to call them “cheats” you may. I however, do not say I’m “cheating”. Because I do not allow myself ingredients I have banned. I do have ingredients I “watch” and “extremely limit”. To me…feeling good is worth way more than how anything tastes. All that aside…Here is what I used:

Nada-Moo Dairy free ice cream. My favorite Dairy Free Ice Cream brand is Coconut Bliss, but so far I have not been able to find Vanilla in my area of that brand. This brand has some ingredients that I would rather not have, but I had this one on hand so it is what I used. I also, like Cado brand. It is extremely creamy! I prefer either of the other brands over this one, but this one is dairy free, and since dairy is an extreme taboo for MS, I used this. (found at Whole Foods, and Fresh Thyme)

So Delicious Coco Whip. This stuff is AWESOME! I used it frozen for this dessert. It’s so creamy good! (Found at Whole Foods, Fresh Thyme, Kroger, and Meijer)

Nature’s Charm Coconut Chocolate Fudge Sauce I would normally make my own sauce, but I had this left over from My birthday and needed to use it. The ONLY thing this one has in it that prevents me from using it more often is cane sugar. So again, this is a RARE indulgence. But it is dairy, gluten, and soy free. And it’s good!

I used a couple of Danielle Walker’s Slim mint cookies from her Eat What You Love cookbook. If you do not have this book, I HIGHLY recommend it! Also, I will post an alternative if you do not have access to this recipe.

Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil I use so much of this oil…it is a staple in my kitchen…LOL

Almond Milk. organic, unsweetened from Aldis works just fine! 😉

Peppermint Milkshake Recipe

1 cup Nada Moo or other compliant Dairy free vanilla ice cream

1-2 Tablespoons Almond milk

2 slim mint cookies from Danielle Walker’s Eat What You Love cookbook (see instructions for alternative to this)

2 Tablespoons Coco Whip

1 Drop Peppermint Essential Oil

2 Tablespoons Natures charm chocolate fudge

Put the ice cream, almond milk, 1 drop peppermint oil, and 1 Tablespoon fudge in a blender and blend until smooth. Add the cookies one at a time and blend in. NOTE: If you do not have access to the recipe for the cookies yet, you can add another drop essential oil (keep in mind a small amount goes a very long way with these oils.) and more fudge to your liking.

Use the other Tablespoon of fudge to “drizzle” on the inside of your glass. Pour milkshake into glass, top with Coco Whip and garnish with more fudge and/or another cookie.

ENJOY!
